Rumour has it the track was short.
The times seem to provide some evidence to this whisper

Can anyone confirm that the full track was measured?

Many were questioning the faster than usual times for some circle events. Seemed a little too quick in the 550m and the 300m. I think the times from the previous year were also quick so many the track is just a fast one.

**Edit to my original post*** The track was actually re-measured and came up short, also Anyone can understand that a bumpoy track with divots being measured with a measuring wheel will be short. All the rises and falls in the track are counted into the total however when you run your stride covers most of them. It's simple really..... A few of us 300 boys chatted about it post race. to have a guess i'd say it was atleast 8-10m short.

If anyone gets pulled for that race that didn't win there will be protests a-plenty!, the race played out basically the same as maribyrnong did and the whole field was quicker by the same margin.

Net time breaking should not apply to this race and simply would not be fair to those who are almost due for their 300 wins only to come close on a short track and get brought back.

Most definitely not blaming the stewards. They do an amazing job week-in, week-out.

However, I’m not so sure about your ‘divot’ theory.

If you presume there are 25 divots over a hundred meter distance, and an average decline of 5cm per divot, then you are looking at an extra 1.3cm x 25divots per 100m which equals 32.5cm. Now, the wheel has to come out of the divot, so you can double that.
We now have the wheel travelling an extra 65cm per 100m. Over the 300m distance the divots will have added 1.95 meters in comparison to a perfectly horizontal track. This means that the person holding the wheel will pull up at 1.95m short of full ‘perfectly horizontal’ distance.

To finish the point I might borrow Luke Stevens. His speed per meters at Bendigo was 0.12sec per meter (Euroa is no Bendigo, but it will suffice for this point). Therefore, the track being short would only have contributed 0.23sec to his final time.

It might be time for a new 'divot-proof' wheel (Dizzy is pretty sure some of the fines handed out this year will be enough to cover the cost.)
