One of the highlights is the 1600m with a large field and usually a great finish. Who rounds them up this year?

Ok a quick analysis of what is probably the premier Mile on the Calendar for those not waiting for Stawell ;-)

Generally a backies race as the pace is on from the start here and it's last man standing.

I have cut off any chances ahead of Matt Grant as the way he is running I think he has those covered. With a 5M lift has to be a legitimate chance here but will have his work cut out as he will be leading the charge of the light brigade I think unless he gets some help from team mates. Love to see him win as he deserves a race of this statue to his name.

Probably get some help from Daniel Veith who is still on the up I think so this maybe just a little hard at this stage. Andrews is the next one who has form and has been there abouts will keep the race honest. Lawlor has been close and on Bay run were he had a bit more may find this a bit tougher.

Weeks is a bit of an outsider, big improvement from Rye to Ballarat which most did but another 5m up on that and with a bit of help at the back could be the surprise.

Donnar with also big improvement from Rye to Ballarat has to be considered and looks on the up, got close a few years ago before going down. He looks quite capable here.

Richter back 20m from Ballarat but felt he was super impressive there and ran like a winner when he needed to, will gain plenty of confidence out of the run and IMO the one to beat again.

Can't leave Murphy out a real competitor and if he can control his early speed here, went like a cut cat at Ballarat has the ability still to come over the top of all these blokes.

Only other chance on form I believe is Cashion, have been super impressed by his competitiveness and ability to both chase an run hard on his own. Fell 45m maybe starting to become a real factor but can't leave class out of the race.

Anyone else to me would be a real surprise but there is a newbies he may not have shown real form yet that you would not be shocked with.

In order Richter from Grant & Andrews, think it will be a grinding race. If left to the kickers brings Murphy & Donnar right into it.

Good Luck all, will be a ripper like usual.

Not sure that I want to write anything after that analysis Shrooms. There were not a lot of votes however I agree with you that this 1600m is one of the best. Under lights, fast time, some form runners on good marks.

Not going to argue with your post, not enough votes to talk favourites so well done to you. Let's see if it plays out like you suggest.
