Taking nothing away from Robert Kane - he can only beat who turns up, but the Port Adelaide 550m Open was a farce. Only seven athletes, of whom four were over 35's. Only three athletes under the age of 40?

Where have all the 'long sprint' athletes gone? It's a worrying trend with only ten athletes reporting to the start of the Open 400m at Henley. Five per heat with only two athletes missing out.

Not sure what the answer is but it's ridiculous to think we can't get more than three under 40's in an open 550m.

Port Adelaide results are in today's (Tuesday 10/11) Advertiser.

Flinders results were in last Tuesday's Advertiser.

I think this its terrific for kids who finish top 3 to see their name in the paper. Especially for the first time.

The results include the name of the sponsor of the race which might be a small thing but at least there is an acknowledgement for those putting up the dollars.

There was a Messenger Press photographer at Port Adelaide on Saturday so there should be a photo accompanying this week's article in the local paper.

Totally agree with you Youngy, Very Happy  Only seven athletes turning up and only three on less than 82 handicap.
Just been through the records and the race has been Run 8 times so guess you are looking at about 70 athletes that have ran in the 550m final over the period the race has been held.Of those 70 athletes only McMahon ,Stangewitz,Khodoshin &Troiano turned up to run on Sat night .So where have the other 6o plus athletes gone.

Also like you said nothing can be taken away from Kane , he ran the third fastest winning time over the period of 8 years and has gone back 9m in the handicaps from his mark from last season.Cant knock some one , and you havent , for turning up in good shape and WANTING to win.
