The fastest man on Earth is heading to New Zealand later this year as he continues to cash in on his Olympic glory.

The six-time Olympic gold medal winner and multiple world record holder Usain Bolt will be in the country to relaunch sport drink Gatorade but the details of his visit are being kept secret.

Frucor chief executive Mark Callaghan said the company were looking to launch the drink in an "exciting way" when Bolt arrives in the country on October 8.

"We are unbelievably excited to bring the fastest man on earth to New Zealand. Coming off his recent performance, Usain well and truly earned his place in history as the fastest sprinter to ever compete," said Callaghan.

The charismatic 26-year-old athlete is no stranger to celebrity endorsements.

He is already an ambassador for sport's wear giant Puma, believed to be worth $9 million (NZD$12 million) annually, and recently impersonated Richard Branson in an advertisement for Virgin Media.

He also has his own app - Bolt!

The Jamaican born athlete came to worldwide attention when he won three gold medals and broke three world records at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

In 2012 in London he created history again by successfully defending all three Olympic titles with 100m, 200m and 4X100m victories. The relay was a world record of 36.84 seconds where Bolt was on the anchor leg.

Further detail about his visit will be released soon.
